Alexis + Tanner : Art-infused Escondido Estate Wedding

May 27, 2011

I will try to keep it short and sweet but I have a personal connection to these two, so please bear with me. Alexis and Tanner are two amazing people and really great friends of ours … even though we rarely see them. As art graduates that share a passion for ceramics and handbuilding, they spend most of their time bouncing around the world through artist residencies. They always come back to long beach – their home away from home – in between projects and call us and the crew to get together, no matter how short the visit. When we found out they were getting married and they wanted us to shoot it, we felt the initial “whut whut!” but then thought about how much fun we’d miss if we were working. Lucky for us we have a lot of fun working, so it all came together amazingly.

The ceremony site was set at “Queen Califa’s Magical Circle” sculpture garden … not normally open for events, Alexis and Tanner (as huge fans of the artists work) got special permission to stage it there. More info on it here.

Their wedding – succinctly described as “BBQ-chic” by Alexis, was a critical mass of DIY skills brought out of the woodwork from all of their friends. I (and I assume Alexis and Tanner as well) wouldn’t have had it any other way. Special recognition of all of the talented people who busted out skills to make it come together: Jeff Bates (guitar), Anabel Correa (flowers), Thuy-Mi Nguyen (make-up), Josh “DJ Weird-Beard” Costa (DJ and MC), Chris Smith (photos), Kim Tran (photos), Jon Hodges and Aaron Kahn (video), and Mary-Jean (ceremony) . Also thanks to Lisa with Festivities Catering for keeping our tummies happy.

Oh and the wedding was the maiden voyage for our “Wallflower” old-skool polaroid photobooth. I’d say it went over well.

Que fiesta de maravilla!
You all look so beautiful and harmonious. Alas, that Bonnie and I were not in-country to share in and contribute to the event. The photography was nearly as stunning as the two of you, A&T. Keep the magic flowing! Huzzah to all your marvelous friends.

Congratulations Alexis and Tanner!!!
You are a great couple! It looks like your wedding meets your standards:
It was a happy and original wedding with a lot of art and ceramics.
I loved the dress and shoes!
A big hug to both of you!
Wish you the best!
Know that you have a house in Guatemala.
Hope to see you soon !

Wishing you a happy and blessed life together. Un abrazo desde Guatemala.
